The Commissioners Court approved a motion to make available and deed 10 acres, at no charge, to the Midland County Utility District (MCUD) for construction of water-distribution facilities related to the district’s planned treatment plant.
MCUD representatives had requested up to roughly 29–30 acres adjacent to the county jail property; county staff provided a ballpark valuation of about $40,000 per acre based on recent county land purchases, which would make 30 acres worth about $1.2 million. Commissioners expressed concern about committing the larger acreage and asked for a narrower, immediate conveyance. After discussion the court voted to deed 10 acres without charge; the county attorney is reviewing the final agreement and minor changes to the contract were expected before final execution.
The court asked staff and MCUD to confirm the acreage needed for the initial plant buildout (court discussion suggested roughly 10 acres was likely sufficient for immediate needs) and noted the court remained open to negotiating additional acreage or payment arrangements in the future.
The deed and interlocal/contract language will be finalized by county legal staff and returned for record generation and execution.
