The Northville Public Schools Board of Education approved ballot language for an August 5, 2025 sinking fund renewal and voted to place the measure on that election date.
Treasurer Stewart presented motion 99 asking the board to approve the proposed sinking fund millage language for the August election; Dr. Campbell Voigtel seconded. The board then heard a summary from district staff explaining the sinking fund’s purpose and typical uses.
Devin (district operations/finance presenter) described the sinking fund as a renewal (not a new levy) used primarily for building infrastructure repairs, technology upgrades and to cover gaps when bond projects go over budget. Examples offered during the discussion included funding for new roofs, boilers and large equipment such as walk-in freezers, and using the sinking fund to avoid drawing on the general fund for such capital expenses.
During the roll call vote the board recorded unanimous support. The recorded roll call in the meeting transcript indicated the following votes: Secretary Meyer — yes; Trustee Frasier — yes; Trustee Mabry — yes; Trustee Maurer — yes; President McIntyre — yes; Vice President Campbell Voigtel — yes; Treasurer Stewart — yes.
Board members described the sinking fund as a critical tool for maintaining facilities without redirecting operating dollars for instruction, and thanked district operations staff for preparing ballot language on an accelerated timeline.
