District honors teachers, students and athletes at April recognition meeting

The Paulding County School Board held a recognition meeting on April 22 that featured district awards including the naming of the 2025 District Teacher of the Year and dozens of student and staff honors across academics, fine arts and athletics.
Superintendent Steve Barnett recognized 35 school-level teachers of the year from 34 schools and the New Hope Education Center and announced Dr. Rosalyn Zimbala of Dobbins Middle School as the district's 2025 Teacher of the Year. "Congratulations, Dr. Zimbala," Barnett said during the presentation.
The board also recognized seven employees of the year from areas including transportation, paraprofessionals, school nutrition, safety and security, custodial services, curriculum coordination and school leadership. Barnett noted that the district's business services division received its sixth consecutive meritorious budget award from the Association of School Business Officials and that the district completed its 2024 independent financial audit with no findings for the 18th consecutive year.
Other recognitions included: - Georgia 4-H Project Achievement: Savannah Blaylock (first place in festive foods for health) qualified for state competition. - Character Ed winners from elementary, middle and high schools for January (fairness) and February (tolerance). - All-State and GHSA honors in art, band, chorus and theater for students from multiple Paulding County schools. - Winter sports players of the year in basketball, swimming, wrestling and flag football, with individual statistics and accomplishments announced for select athletes. - Governor's Honors Program finalists from the district, including Ezra Lowell (communication) and other named students.
The board also recognized student performances (Panter Elementary show choir) and community events (Special Olympics participation, upcoming graduations on May 21-22). The superintendent and staff thanked volunteers and partners, including the Paulding County Parks and Recreation Department for hosting the meeting at its facility.
Discussion versus decision: The recognitions were ceremonial and informational; no formal board action was taken on the awards during the meeting.
