Lakeland School reports interim Medicaid, categorical aid receipts and ongoing operating costs; lists upcoming drills and events

Lakeland School provided the board with a departmental compliance and program report at the April 23 meeting that covered interim revenues, recent expenses, Special Olympics participation and planned safety drills and events.
Staff reported interim Medicaid payments of $47,000 in February and $15,000 in March and a $3,000 Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction meal-reimbursement payment received in February, which together the presenter described as bringing February revenues to $57,131. The district also received $319,799 in categorical aid (based on 2023–24 payroll); staff said a final categorical payment is expected in June. A warranty claim produced $14,000 in other operating revenue.
Notable expenses cited included utilities (reported as $20,785), janitorial services ($30,000), design work on capital projects ($8,535), repairs and maintenance in March ($23,000), and $36,000 from IDA funds to cover two months of transportation costs and parent reimbursement. The presenter said the district did not incur consulting fees from Imagine Your Capacity for the 2025–26 school year.
On extracurriculars and student activities, Lakeland School sent 15 athletes to the Special Olympics spring games at UW–Oshkosh April 11–13, with individual placings across skills and swimming events and a four-game division basketball schedule. Staff said the students also participated in health screenings, a dance and leadership sessions; Lakeland is scheduling summer games at UW–Whitewater.
On safety, the principal described reunification training with deputy Weiss and assistant principal Nora; staff will conduct an on-site drill and provide reunification “go bags” containing hygiene supplies, water and first aid. The school scheduled an early dismissal on April 30 to practice the drill. Upcoming dates announced: high-school graduation at 7:00 p.m. on June 2; middle-school graduation at 10:00 a.m. on June 3; and the student-of-the-month/Special Olympics send-off at 1:30 p.m. on June 4.
Board members were also informed of two recent donations: $125 from the Lions District for hearing-aid devices and a $200 restricted donation for prom expenses. The board confirmed the next meeting date as Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.
