Staff said further work with the Department of Public Works and a walk-through of an in-service medium-roof vehicle used by the county’s shared-ride program showed the medium roof meets the school's needs without requiring special licenses or the extra height of a high-top model. The county’s care foundation, which donated funds toward the vehicle, granted permission for the specification change.
Staff also said the chosen medium-roof model will accommodate a side-load wheelchair lift and recommended a bariatric-capable configuration to support students with higher weight needs. A board member questioned the necessity of a bariatric-specific model; staff responded the county’s Department of Public Works recommended the configuration based on existing shared-ride fleet standards and wheelchair-lift loading requirements.
The board moved and seconded the change of scope and approved it by voice vote.
