Extension horticulture specialist previews composting class, Lake Geneva Farmers Market outreach

Julie, the horticulture outreach specialist, updated the Walworth County Board of Agriculture Extension Education Committee on April 21 about spring programming, partnerships and outreach plans.
Julie said she is working with East Troy Parks and Recreation and Bigfoot Recreation District to offer multiple gardening programs. She told the committee a composting program will be held next Monday at Bigfoot High School through the Bigfoot Recreation District.
Julie reminded the committee of the “Ask Your Gardening Question” service that she provides as a free county resource and said she is working on new marketing to raise public awareness. She said she promotes programs across the three counties she serves because residents frequently travel for workshops.
Julie said Master Gardeners will be at the Lake Geneva Farmers Market weekly from May through September to provide extension information and public assistance. She also noted extension staff are planning to participate in an Emergency Preparedness Expo at Gateway (described in the packet as the last Saturday in May) where she will present gardening topics and a colleague will address financial preparedness.
Committee members thanked Julie; no committee action was taken.
