Board hears facilities and transportation update; approves three job descriptions

The district said HVAC staffing gaps disrupted service over winter but that outside contractors and a returning, retired HVAC technician helped stabilize repairs; the district is still recruiting for an HVAC position. Waste‑diversion work continues: cafeterias are shifting toward compostable serviceware and the district is placing three‑bin stations in classrooms and working with a sustainability committee to publish site audits. Transportation reported 16 vans, seven operable buses and two buses slated for disposal; staffing includes three bus drivers, 16 van drivers and two mechanics, and two maintenance staff are training to become bus drivers.
On personnel items, trustees approved updates to the library media‑technician job description (finalizing changes from a classification study) and approved a new assistive‑technology specialist position to support students with IEP‑assigned communication and access devices. Trustees also approved a new athletic‑trainer job description; the district said it has budgeted 3.5 full‑time positions for athletic trainers this year. Each job description motion passed during the meeting; trustees recorded the motions and each vote concluded with “Aye.” The consent agenda also passed.
Trustees thanked maintenance crews for recent roofing work and discussed the district’s proprietary garbage‑truck collection in Daly City (the district can sort trash, recycling and compost for those sites), field conditions and plans for summer capital work. District staff said field work and path‑of‑travel repairs will continue over the summer as teams complete audits and cost estimates.
No specific expenditures were approved at the meeting beyond the budget references for athletic trainers; staff said recruitment and hiring will proceed through the normal personnel processes.
