Monroe council confirms two mayoral appointments to Parks Board

The Monroe City Council unanimously confirmed two mayoral appointments to the city’s Parks Board at its April 22 meeting.

Councilmember Walker moved to confirm the mayor’s appointment of Ryan Olsen to Parks Board position 1, term ending Dec. 31, 2025; Councilmember Scarborough seconded the motion. The council voted 7–0 to approve the appointment. Ryan Olsen briefly introduced himself to the council, saying he had lived in Monroe about five years and wanted to help keep parks “safe, well maintained, and accessible.”

The council then voted 7–0 to confirm Claire Robinson to Parks Board position 5, term ending Dec. 31, 2026, on a motion from Councilmember Fisher and second from Councilmember Fulcher. Robinson said she lives in Monroe with two young children, is a mental-health professional, and holds a master’s in public administration as well as a master’s in social work. She said she was “passionate about the outdoors and how green spaces affect community health.”

Staff told the council there were three vacancies and two applicants; both candidates originally had applied for other positions but asked to be considered for parks vacancies. The mayor had interviewed both candidates and recommended their confirmation. Both confirmations were routine votes during the council’s revised agenda.

Appointments were effective immediately; council did not attach conditions or amendments to the confirmations during the meeting.
