Thurston County commissioners ratify Evergreen internship agreement after heated debate

The Thurston County Board of County Commissioners ratified an internship site agreement with The Evergreen State College on April 22, voting 3 in favor and recording 2 abstentions.

The ratification formalizes an agreement executed March 24 that places Evergreen students in county internships. The board directed staff to continue work on formalizing bylaws and clearer internal procedures to avoid future confusion, and asked the clerk and county manager to draft clearer guidance for when agreements require prior full-board consideration.

The ratification concluded the immediate dispute over the interns; board members said they want improved process documentation going forward.
