Anderson told the council the formula used to allocate operating costs has been in place since 2012. "Back in January of this year, city staff met with representatives from the contracted townships to review the terms and payment amounts of the annual service agreement," Anderson said. He said the services provided by the fire department remain unchanged, but the term will be three years with an annual review.
Council members said the negotiations sought to balance service quality, timeliness and township fiscal responsibilities; Council Member Schaffer and Mayor Burns participated in discussions, the record shows. The council voted to approve the 2025–2028 township fire service agreements.
Ending: City staff said they will continue annual reviews under the new agreements and remain available to answer township questions about the formula and payments.
