The Walworth County Zoning Agency voted to advance proposed amendments to county ordinances that would let the agency reduce the 200-foot setback for mineral-extraction excavations to 100 feet in certain circumstances and, in some cases, eliminate the setback where multiple properties share the excavation.
Nick, the county planner, explained the draft changes would also allow the CZA to require engineering from applicants to support requests for reduction or elimination of setbacks. He said staff added language at the prior hearing to ignore road-right-of-way zoning designations when measuring the setback distance (for example, where the roadway is zoned park but adjacent land is residential). The agency moved the draft forward to the County Board for the next step (motion by Van Driesser; second by Kabowski).
