Public health presenter Amy said she met with Christy Makowick, CEO of Hillsboro St. Joseph’s, to plan an outreach event aiming to distribute preparedness kits and weather radios and engage community partners. The event is tentatively scheduled for May 14 at the Firemen’s Park in Hillsboro; organizers plan to register attendees in advance to match limited supplies and expect partner participation from Vernon Electric and other community organizations.
Emergency Management Director Brandon reported four spill reports in Vernon County since January (three in Iowa County, one in Richland County, none in Crawford) and described one incident initially reported as an oil spill on County Y that responders concluded was water. He also said Walgreens employees reported illness recently; the BlackLine meter and other gas meters were used and did not detect hazardous levels.
On hazardous‑substance reporting, Brandon said Tier‑2 reporting for 2024 had a March 1 deadline and that five facilities remain outstanding; the state sends reminder notices and the director plans to call the remaining facilities. He said late fees or interest may apply where applicable and that the state’s pre‑application process ties reporting to equipment grant allocations.
