LEPC reviews 2025–2027 state hazmat teams contract; committee approves moving forward

Vernon County’s Local Emergency Planning Committee reviewed the 2025–2027 contract for state hazardous materials teams and approved the county proceeding to sign once the contract is circulated.
Emergency Management Director Brandon said the contract governs payments to type 3 state teams and is set to renew July 1. He said the state Department of Military Affairs legal team’s only substantive change was to clarify quarterly payment dates and to specify the contract ends 06/30/2027. Brandon told the committee the annual allocation for a type 3 team has been roughly $15,008 and that the contract language otherwise has been largely unchanged for several years.
Committee members asked whether the funding carries spending restrictions; Brandon said funds are flexible so long as expenditures are tied to hazmat activity — payroll, training, equipment replacement and similar items — and noted separate state equipment grant processes provide specified items to teams.
Members approved the director’s request to accept the forthcoming contract and signatory routing, with the understanding the document will be circulated for signatures before the July 1 renewal date.
