Bertha Bartlett Library adds 5,000 sq. ft., plans August grand opening

Tara Turner, representing the Bertha Bartlett Public Library, told the Story County Board of Supervisors on April 22 that the library’s expansion is nearly complete and that the project added roughly 5,000 square feet to the building.
Turner said the addition includes a large meeting room that seats more than 200 people and a smaller meeting space; the project team moved the library’s 40,000‑item collection into the meeting space to remain open during construction. She said exterior brickwork blends the new addition with the original building and that ceiling tile installation and interior work were underway, with completion hoped for in June.
Turner said the project brought the library up to required safety codes by adding a fire‑sprinkler and alarm system. She said the library plans a soft opening the week before an August 1 grand‑opening event that will include a magician at 4:30 p.m. tied to the end of the summer reading program.
Board members asked about event timing and Turner confirmed the evening activities; she said the library will likely open to the public a week before the public grand opening to work out operational issues. The board received the ARPA annual report and no formal action followed.
