Several applicants withdraw or defer while ARC directs staff to standardize experience chart

At its March 27 meeting the Santa Fe Archaeological Review Committee heard multiple applications from professionals seeking listing on the city roster of approved archaeologists and historians. Several applicants voluntarily withdrew or agreed to withdraw their applications after committee members found the submitted experience charts left key supervisory experience, historian qualifications, or writing samples unclear.

Committee members repeatedly said they were seeing inconsistent formats and missing supervisory-day totals in application charts. One applicant, Jeremy Levin, told the committee he would reapply after revising his chart. Another, Gregory Mastro Prieto, said he would withdraw to cure application deficiencies. Committee members and staff said the city will prepare a standardized chart-of-experience template — based on the state template currently used by some applicants — and circulate it to future applicants to reduce confusion.

A recurring procedural point: several applicants had applied for “archaeologist and historian” but confirmed during the hearing they sought only archaeologist status; committee members asked staff to strike historian from those cases unless the applicant documents the specific historian qualifications listed in city code. Staff agreed to work with applicants on editorial corrections but said the committee prefers to see full documentation rather than approve pending resubmittal.

Ending: Staff committed to drafting a city-specific experience chart and to remind applicants to remove non-supervisory entries from totals. Several applications were withdrawn or deferred; applicants may return with amended materials in a future hearing.
