Santa Fe ARC approves Matthew Landidge for city list of archaeologists (archaeologist only)

Landidge said the chart submitted reflected his New Mexico experience and that other supervisory experience was listed in a separate portion of his materials. Committee members examined subtotals in the chart and concluded the combined totals met the city’s minimum experience threshold for archaeologists, as interpreted by the committee.
The committee chair called for a motion to approve listing Landidge as an archaeologist only; a committee member moved and another seconded, and the motion carried after members indicated their assent.
Why it matters: The city maintains a roster of approved archaeologists and historians who may be required to perform archaeological work under city permits; additions and qualifications affect who is eligible to be principal investigators or supervisors on permitted projects.
Committee members and staff also used the hearing to repeat an ongoing request: staff will create a standard, city-specific “chart of experience” template to clarify what the committee counts as supervisory experience and to reduce inconsistent submissions.
The committee asked Landidge to consider a separate application for historian listing if he can document the archival and historical-research experience the code requires. Landidge described historical research he has undertaken on Penitentes in the region but agreed to submit additional documentation if he pursues historian listing.
