The State Board voted to grant full approval to Coe College’s teacher preparation program through the next scheduled review cycle.
Department reviewers reported results of a seven‑year program review that included documentation, 17 external reviewers, six site visitors, classroom observations and 44 interviews. Reviewers commended Coe for a revised assessment system, strong partnerships with K‑12 educators and clearer candidate progress monitoring.
The review team recommended continued focus on several operational items: clarifying faculty lines and administrative release time to ensure sustainability, reducing reliance on adjuncts, tightening syllabus consistency across course sections, and improving rubrics and inter‑rater reliability for program‑level assessments.
The board approved the program’s continued accreditation for the standard seven‑year cycle. Coe administrators attending the meeting described new hires and course changes intended to address review recommendations, including a newly designated director of student teaching and a planned assessment/differentiation course.
