Jordan Board picks long-break calendar for 2026'27 after 6,100-person survey

The Jordan Board of Education voted unanimously April 22 to adopt the long-break option for the 2026'27 academic calendar following a district survey of about 6,100 respondents.
Caleb Olsen, who chaired the district's calendar committee, told the board the survey closed with roughly 6,100 responses and that parents comprised the largest group of participants. "About 54% of the respondents were in favor of the long break option and 46% in favor of the short break option," Olsen said during the study session, summarizing subgroup breakdowns by school level and stakeholder type.
Committee members and board members discussed how the survey changed this year to a single-choice preference to produce clearer contrast between calendar options. Board members noted tradeoffs such as the difficulty of aligning Jordan's calendar with neighboring districts and the competing needs of hourly-paid education support professionals who may prefer different break schedules.
The board's motion to approve the long-break calendar was made by Board Member Bryce Dunford and seconded by Board Member Daryl Robinson. The motion passed without objection.

A district calendar shapes family schedules, childcare needs and employment patterns for staff who live outside Jordan boundaries. Administrators told the board they plan to proceed with the approved option and to make additional technical adjustments in the coming months.
