The Village of La Grange Park Board of Trustees on April 22 unanimously approved a stray-animal services agreement with the Hinsdale Humane Society (HHS) that increases the impound fee to $385 per animal and includes an automatic annual increase of 3.5% each April 1.
Trustee Caputo presented the police department's recommendation and explained the amended municipal code requires owners of impounded animals to pay the impound fee and any costs incurred by the facility. He moved to approve a resolution authorizing execution of the agreement; trustees voted yes on a roll call.
During discussion Village President DiCipio asked how the process works if an owner reclaims an animal. A staff member responded that the village would receive the HHS invoice and issue a local citation for the impound fee; if the animal is not reclaimed after the seven-day holding period (unless otherwise directed by the village president, manager or court order), HHS would place the animal for adoption rather than euthanize, and the retaining fee would still apply.
The final agreement and resolution were approved by the board; staff will execute the contract and process invoices under the village's impound-fee ordinance (section 9-2.034(c)) as discussed at the meeting.
