Senate Resources Committee sends Taiwan resolution to full Senate

The Alaska Senate Resources Committee on April 23 voted to report Senate Joint Resolution 8 to the full Senate.
Senator Grama Jackson, sponsor of SJR 8, told the committee the resolution "reaffirms Alaska's commitment to strengthening its relationship with Taiwan, and it recognizes the deep economic culture and educational ties between our state and our international partner in Taiwan." The committee received no public testimony at the hearing.
The committee approved a motion by Vice Chair Senator Wilkowsky to report SJR 8 "out of committee with individual recommendations and attached fiscal notes," with legislative legal staff authorized to make technical and conforming changes. Chair Senator Giesel noted there was no objection, and the resolution will move from committee.
SJR 8 is a nonbinding resolution; the committee record shows no amendments and no recorded fiscal cost beyond the attached fiscal notes that will accompany the transmittal paperwork.
