Redmond to open two new light-rail stations May 10; ribbon cutting set for downtown

Mayor Angela Birney announced that two new light-rail stations in Redmond will open Saturday, May 10, extending service from South Bellevue to Downtown Redmond and inviting the public to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Downtown Redmond Station.
The mayor said trains will begin running at noon and that attendees can "bike, walk, or take a shuttle from the parking garages at both the Redmond Technology Station and the new Marymore Village Station to join in." From noon to 4 p.m., both new stations will host activities, entertainment and pop-ups from local small businesses and organizations, Birney said.
"Join us. Jump on a train and experience the fun new way to commute around the region," Birney said in the announcement, repeating the date for the opening.
The mayor’s remarks were an invitation to the community rather than a policy action or vote. No formal council or board action was recorded in the announcement.
