The Rangeley Board of Selectmen on April 22 approved the first reading of revised bylaws for the Airport Commission and approved the airport manager job description.
The board reviewed three drafts: the commission's original draft, a town-manager markup, and suggested edits from a commission member (identified in the record as Borigar). Members debated membership size, alternates, and the appointment process. The board opted to keep the commission at five members with up to two alternates, and to retain the board of selectmen as the appointing authority rather than allow the commission to reappoint its own members. One selectman suggested adding one nonresident taxpayer position, but the board did not finalize that element at first reading.
Selectmen also reviewed and approved the airport manager job description as presented, with a brief correction to wording (noting "finger" rather than "finder" in a physical requirement) and confirmation that a GED would be acceptable in lieu of a high school diploma. The motion to approve the job description carried.
The bylaws passed first reading (motion by Sam, second by Jake) and will return for a second reading at the board's next meeting; the job description was approved on first reading and will be used in recruitment or managerial staffing.
