Council approves on‑sale liquor license for Lago Tacos at 3801 Grand Way

The St. Louis Park City Council on April 21 unanimously approved an on‑sale intoxicating liquor license for Lago Lynn Lake LLC, doing business as Lago Tacos, to operate at 3801 Grand Way.

City staff told the council the application meets city zoning and building requirements and that the police department’s background check “found nothing that would warrant denial of the license.” The premises is described in the application as about 6,918 square feet with an indoor seating capacity of 206 and outdoor seating for 72, for a total of 278 seats.

City staff asked the council to open and close a public hearing on the license. No members of the public spoke. Applicant Thomas Farris, identified in the record as the sole owner and on‑site manager, told the council the restaurant will include a game area for children, a dining room and a sidewalk cafe, and said the business is “feverishly working” to open the St. Louis Park location. “We’ve listened to a lot of input from the community,” Farris said.

Council members welcomed the applicant and noted the location was the former McCoy’s Public House. A staff member said the combined fee for the intoxicating license and Sunday sales is $8,950 (the city listed $8,750 for intoxicating and $200 for Sunday sales) and that licensing paperwork would be processed after council action.

The council moved, seconded and approved the license by voice vote. The applicant said the previous Lago location at Lyndale had closed the prior Sunday and that roughly 40 employees are expected at the new site.

The council’s action was taken as a regular business item following a brief staff report and the applicant’s remarks.
