Council and public works discuss multiple options to address Gold Creek Drive concerns; more talks with HOA planned

Public Works Director Trampus Hansard briefed the council April 21 on possible repairs and realignment options for Gold Creek Drive, an HOA‑maintained street that residents have flagged as a safety concern.
Hansard outlined an engineering estimate for a full rebuild if the council chose to "bridal" the road — roughly 1,300 linear feet — and said the early cost estimate for that option was about $211,000 excluding bids and bonds; he cautioned that final bids and bonding could materially increase the figure. Hansard also described lower‑cost alternatives, such as realigning the curb near the clubhouse or minor widening in targeted locations to address sight‑line and turning safety, and said he would meet the HOA to review those options.
Councilmembers and staff discussed whether the city should require similar upgrades in other subdivisions or focus on options that address the HOA's immediate safety concerns. Several councilmembers said the full 1,300‑foot rebuild was not financially feasible and urged staff to meet with the HOA to present narrower alternatives (realign curb, adjust curve geometry, or widen limited sections) that may resolve the safety issues without a complete rebuild.
Hansard and other staff said they will provide drawings and aerial images to show where the road previously ran and how proposed changes would appear. Council scheduled staff to meet the HOA and report back. No funding decision was made at the meeting.
