Stacy Harris, zoning administrative assistant, explained the petition filed by Veil and Son LLC on behalf of Matthew Turner and said the Dawson County Board of Commissioners reviewed the annexation with no objections. Harris told council the R‑1 standards would apply, including a minimum lot size of 1 acre and R‑1 minimum house size of 1,500 square feet; she noted front setbacks of 50 feet, side setbacks of 20 feet and rear setbacks of 40 feet under city code.
A council motion to approve the annexation passed by recorded vote; the clerk announced the motion "passed" and the item moved forward on the council’s agenda.
Council discussed whether the annexed tract would be an island and staff confirmed it would not. Councilmembers also characterized the resulting two lots as roughly one and one‑half acre each. The annexation will change land-use review and permitting for future development on the tract to city standards.
