Redevelopment Commission reports modest revenues from I‑65 and I‑69 allocation areas; council accepts 2024 annual report

The Johnson County Council accepted the Johnson County Redevelopment Commission’s 2024 annual report at its April 14 meeting after a presentation from county financial advisor Jeff Peters.

Peters told the council the I‑65 allocation area generated $7,073,805 in 2024, while the I‑69 allocation area produced $75,025. The commission also collected about $70,007.85 through an economic development fee structure. Peters said total reported revenue for the redevelopment commission in 2024 was $219,615 and that total expenditures tracked in the report included engineering studies ($6,873), financial consulting ($4,598), insurance ($318) and a $30,000 payment to Aspire Economic/Chamber services for marketing and outreach.

At year-end 2024 Peters said the commission’s funds on hand included roughly $200,000 in the development fee fund, about $112,000 in the I‑65 allocation fund and about $86,000 in the I‑69 fund, for a combined balance near $400,000. Peters said the allocation areas are relatively new and that the commission expects larger development and revenues tied to planned infrastructure and site-readiness work in the future.

Council member Michelle Grissmer moved to approve the Redevelopment Commission annual report; the motion was seconded by Council member Dittmers and approved by the council.

Peters said the full packet includes parcel-level assessed-value details and the incremental values used to calculate allocation-area revenues; he encouraged council members to contact redevelopment staff with questions about future projects that may require council funding decisions.
