Duncanville ISD trustees approve personnel and contract items; coach hire passes 6-1
Summary
At its April meeting the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees approved a series of personnel contracts, a memorandum of understanding and other consent items. A one-year contract for the head girls basketball coach passed 6-1 after a trustee voiced opposition.
Duncanville Independent School District trustees voted on several personnel and administrative items during their April meeting, approving superintendent recommendations and routine consent items.
The board approved a one-year contract for Robert Amboree as head girls basketball coach. The motion passed on an electronic vote, 6-1, after Trustee Janice Savage Martin said she did not believe Amboree "is the best fit for the girls basketball program." Trustee Savage Martin identified her personal and family ties to the Pantherettes program as context for her objection.
The board also carried several superintendent recommendations and consent items unanimously, including two motions to issue contracts for employees for the 2025–26 school year (each motion carried 7-0), approval of a memorandum of understanding with the University of North Texas at Dallas (7-0) and acceptance of the consent agenda (7-0).
One item recorded under action was the boardapproval to terminate the probationary contract of Patricia Lennox at the end of the contract period in the best interest of the district pursuant to Texas Education Code Section 21.103; the motion carried 7-0. Trustees also voted not to nominate any candidate for TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) Region 10 positions when asked whether the board wished to recommend any candidates; motions to not nominate carried 7-0.
The board handled the votes electronically and tallied motions publicly during open session. No additional action items requiring board votes were introduced in the public record during the remainder of the meeting.
