Huntersville commissioners voted unanimously April 22 to approve a resolution authorizing acquisition of right-of-way and easements necessary to construct underground electrical infrastructure to serve the Coventry Glen subdivision on Maize Road.
Town staff said Coventry Glen is an 82-home subdivision nearing occupancy and the closest existing power line lies on the rear of Ambassador Christian School property. Staff reported they had negotiated since January, made multiple offers based on an appraisal, and had not received a counteroffer; they requested authority to proceed with condemnation (eminent domain) if negotiations failed.
Staff emphasized the requested easement is in an unused ravine area on the left side of the school property, that all lines will be buried, and that crews will bore under drive and paved areas to avoid disruption of daily drop-off/pick-up activity. Construction for the underground run was estimated to take about two weeks.
Commissioner Walsh asked for a visual locating the easement; staff said the image would be sent to commissioners. The board approved the resolution and staff confirmed the dollar amount previously offered would remain available to the property owner if condemnation proceeded.
