WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. — The board conducted a public hearing on an ordinance amending Chapter 23 of the Wakulla County Code to address prohibitions in county parks and other county facilities in light of House Bill 1365 (2024). Staff told the board the business impact statement required by statute had been inadvertently removed from the county website and reposted, and asked the board to hold the hearing and continue the item to April 21 at 5 p.m. for final action.
The ordinance is intended to conform county rules to HB 1365 from the 2024 legislative session, which staff said preempts counties from allowing sleeping or camping on public facilities including parks and rights of way. Staff asked the board to take public comment during the hearing and to delay a vote to allow the republished business impact statement to be available to the public.
Commissioners voted to hold the public hearing and continue the ordinance to the April 21 meeting; the motion passed 5‑0.
