WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. — The Board of County Commissioners voted 5‑0 to accept two Florida Department of Transportation FY 2024‑25 beautification grants to fund landscaping projects along U.S. 98 (Coastal Trail) and in the median of Crawfordville Highway.
For the US‑98 project, staff said the total estimated project cost is $133,992. The county requested $111,000 from FDOT and committed $22,000 in local match for design and landscape maintenance at sites along Coastal Trail and on county‑owned property at 4450 Coastal Highway (Lift Station 76). The board also approved the county chair and the sheriff to execute the FDOT beautification grant, landscape construction and maintenance memorandum agreement.
A separate, but similar, grant was approved to provide landscaping in the median of the newly four‑lane section of Crawfordville Highway; staff described using perennial peanuts in the median. Both grant awards and associated budget amendments were approved by voice vote, 5‑0.
Staff said the applications were submitted in 2024 and that FDOT indicated draft grant agreements were ready for execution in February 2025. Commissioners approved both memoranda of agreement and associated budget amendments during the meeting.
