Commission approves search for new YES director and interim pay increase for acting director

The Colfax County Commission voted to authorize advertising and recruiting for a new director of the YES program after state audits flagged issues that placed the program on a corrective action plan.
Acting county management informed the commission that the current director’s contract was terminated and that Kristen Trujillo has filled the role in an interim capacity. Because Trujillo has taken on extra reporting and administrative responsibilities to the state, the commission approved a temporary increase to her monthly pay by $400 during the interim while the county conducts a public recruitment for a permanent director.
County counsel explained the pay adjustment is intended to recognize the delta in duties and that the county continues to save by employing an interim rather than immediately hiring a full replacement. Commissioners approved the recruitment and the interim pay adjustment by roll call.
Staff said they will continue to work with the state on corrective plan submissions, staffing reports and caseload reports required by the state during the corrective action period.
