East Ramapo announces free K–12 summer programs for 2025; registrations open

Anthony DeCarlo, interim superintendent of the East Ramapo Central School District (Spring Valley), announced the district will offer free K–12 summer programs in summer 2025 that include kindergarten “jump start,” computer science and robotics, graphic arts, fine and performing arts, athletics, a STEAM program at Pomona Middle School, a SMART Scholars program for high school students, credit recovery and Regents exam review. Registration is available at ERCSD.org/summerprograms and spaces are limited.
“We want our students not to have summer slide, but we also understand it is their summer,” DeCarlo said, explaining the district’s goal of combining learning and recreation. He said transportation, meals and program activities will be provided at no cost to families.
Sonia Dominguez, district staff, said the SMART Scholars program gives high school students “a little bit of a head start in college courses during the summer.” The district also plans credit-recovery classes for students who need credits to advance to the next grade and targeted Regents review sessions in August for students taking those exams.
A Finkelstein Memorial Library representative described a complementary summer reading challenge the library runs for local children: “Kids can log their books online or in person, write a quick review of anything that you read this summer, and you earn prizes such as Target gift cards, art supplies, and free books, and you're entered for our grand prize raffles that are each worth over a hundred dollars.” The library also offers programs year-round and has books in multiple languages, including Spanish.
DeCarlo said the district visited the Finkelstein Memorial Library as part of outreach to promote literacy and community partnerships. Parents and guardians seeking details or to sign up are instructed to visit ERCSD.org/summerprograms to view the full list of offerings and submit applications.
DeCarlo closed the announcement with the district rallying cry: “Go East Ramapo.”
