District presents updated emergency plan; building-level plans to be uploaded with drone imagery

The East Ramapo Central School District on April 22 heard a presentation on its district emergency plan that officials described as a "living document" and said would be updated with new building-level imagery and summer incident-command training.

Tom Carton, who led the presentation, told the board the district will conduct summer exercises for administrators and that building-level emergency plans — which he said are confidential — will be uploaded to the state with drone photographs and live footage to reflect recent changes in roads and building surroundings. "The district emergency plan is a living document. We're always updating it," Carton said.

Carton said the updated materials will be used for tabletop exercises so participants can view evacuation routes and practice role assignments under the incident command system. He said the district will hold a refresher course this summer so "everybody knows what roles they have to fulfill." The public has 30 days to comment on the plan; Carton said comments may be emailed to Kathy Keevy, the district clerk, and that he will address submitted questions at next month's presentation.

No formal action was taken at the meeting on the emergency plan; Carton described the presentation and the comment period and invited questions from the public and board members. The presentation was scheduled before the public speaking portion of the meeting.
