The General Government and Finance Committee authorized staff to apply for up to $250,000 from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) to help pay demolition and cleanup costs at the Pilgrim/Mequon Road site associated with the former Flower Source property.
Administrator Craig Lowe said the resolution before the committee was an authorization to apply only and did not obligate the village to accept funds. He said the grant — up to $250,000 — would pay demolition and site cleanup costs and would not require Tax Increment District (TID) or levy funds. Lowe emphasized that the grant program does not dictate the future use of the property; local control over redevelopment decisions would remain with the village.
Trustee Jan Miller asked whether a two‑year idle/abandoned period was a requirement and whether ownership for the prior two years was necessary; staff said ownership for two years was not required under the grant rules. Lowe identified the parcels covered as those associated with the Flower Source site (trustee noted a parcel identifier 262340 during discussion).
A motion to approve the resolution to apply for the WEDC redevelopment grant passed without recorded dissent. The application is intended to reduce the village’s out‑of‑pocket costs for demolition and to prepare the site for future redevelopment discussions.
