Tony, the licensing presenter, said Walmart filed three applications: a retail beer off-premises and retail table-wine license for the neighborhood market portion (Walmart 2500), a retail beer off-premises and retail table-wine license for the Walmart fuel station, and a Class 2 package-store application for a separate liquor area often with a separate entrance.
When asked whether the fuel station sales would allow customers to buy beer while refueling, Tony replied that customers "can get a 6 pack too" when purchasing fuel. He clarified the package-store space is typically accessed through a separate entrance on the building’s exterior.
Chief Ryan of the Tuscaloosa Police Department indicated support for enforcement related to packaged liquor sales. "Yes," Chief Ryan said when asked if police were supportive of liquor-bottle enforcement.
Licensing staff noted these applications are for off-premises sales and that items for on-premises consumption would follow a different review path. The presenter said the three applications will come before council that night for consideration.
