Mayor Walt Maddox read a proclamation declaring the week of April 2025 as Medical Laboratory Professionals Week in Tuscaloosa, citing the role of clinical laboratory scientists, technicians and pathologists in diagnosing disease and safeguarding public health. Marvin Lucas and Dr. Eric Stanford accepted the proclamation and thanked the council.
The mayor also encouraged registration for the Tuscaloosa Mayor's Cup, saying online registration was open for about 48 hours and that on-site registration would be available the morning of the race. He said the event raises funds for pre‑K classrooms and noted higher-than-usual registration this year.
Council member Lanier announced that a groundbreaking for upgrades to Burrell Odom Park would be held the following morning at 10 a.m. and invited the community to attend.
During citizens' comments, Jim Knox, president of Steelworkers Local 351, invited the mayor and council to the union's 78th anniversary on May 2 and described the planned schedule and location. Resident Runtree Dunn asked why certain public water fountains on the city's west side were not operating and raised a separate concern about lighting on a recently built bridge on Skyland/McFarland; city staff said they would reconnect with the resident and that bridge lighting was under state (not city) responsibility.
Those items were announcements and public comments; no formal action was taken on the park or the fountain or bridge issues during the meeting.
