Heidi Yealy, a child and family specialist, told the Fountain City Council during public comment on April 22 that Palomay Child and Family Specialists and the Edge Teen Center have been working toward a Fountain location and a tentative May 9 opening.
Yealy said Palomay Child and Family Specialists is a small business that provides mental‑health and substance‑use services and that the Edge Teen Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit partner offering a safe after‑school and summer place for teens. “We have an office in Colorado Springs in Woodland Park, and we're soon to have 1 here,” Yealy said, adding staff hope the center will provide structured activities and support to local youth.
Yealy described a “holistic approach” combining individual and family therapy, advocacy, mentoring and supervised visits, and said services will be available for children as young as 2 and upward. She said the center will partner with Fountain Valley Kiwanis and other local youth organizations to provide volunteer and community service opportunities for teens. Yealy also noted the site is on the bus line and asked council members to attend a planned open house and ribbon cutting once a final date and time are confirmed.
Why it matters
Yealy told the council the Edge Teen Center aims to give local teens “a safe place for kids to come hang out, spend time, to connect, not with their phone, not with their iPad, but with each other.” For families and service providers, a local drop‑in center and wraparound mental‑health services can expand options for after‑school supervision, therapy and community support.
Follow up
Yealy said she will supply the council with exact dates and invitations; council members encouraged the center’s organizers to return with details for a ribbon cutting and community notification. No formal action was requested or taken during the public‑comment period.
