The East Point City Council voted April 21 to approve a zoning-map amendment converting a parcel identified as 0 East Woodbury Avenue from R-3 (multifamily) to MXCI (Mixed Use Commercial Industrial) to permit small-business office/workspace uses.
Assistant Director Lee Kelly summarized staffrecommendation of denial and said the Planning & Zoning Commission had also recommended denial. Despite the department recommendation, Councilmember Buck moved to approve the rezoning request; the motion included several conditions staff flagged should the council enact a change of district.
Applicant Cody Snyder and other proponents asked the council to allow redevelopment for small-business workspace and to encourage local commercial activity. Opponents and staff expressed concerns that the request was not aligned with the propertyfuture land-use designation. The council ultimately approved the zoning change; staff will prepare the implementing ordinance language and application conditions for the required readings and for permit review.
The approval was taken after a public hearing; council instructed staff to include the conditions discussed if the rezoning ordinance is prepared for adoption.
