Sanders warned that rising local taxes could cause residents to “vote with their feet” by shopping in Springfield and suggested municipalities consider alternatives to the current ambulance district structure, including withdrawal from the Christian County ambulance district or creation of a separate district with different board oversight.
Sanders said he had not seen a “good explanation” for increases in the ambulance district revenue and estimated that the district’s revenue had risen substantially from earlier levels. He proposed exploring whether a locally controlled district or different governance could lower the tax burden.
Mayor acknowledged the concern and the public comment was received; council did not take action on the suggestion during the meeting.
