Will County recognizes emergency management volunteers for 7,000 hours and disaster response role

Will County’s Emergency Management Agency presented a volunteer recognition during the April 17 board meeting to honor roughly 70 active volunteers and highlight their role in emergency preparedness and response.
Director Allison Anderson said volunteers contribute in field services (communications, drone operations, lighting and traffic control), search and rescue and public education. Anderson said volunteers logged almost 7,000 hours in the prior year, a value estimated at $232,186 using national volunteer‑pay equivalencies. Eighteen volunteers were singled out for logging 80% of the program hours and receiving Presidential Service Awards (bronze, silver and gold categories).
Anderson credited volunteers with supporting response to two declared emergencies in recent years — ice‑dam flooding in Wilmington and a July tornado event — and said volunteer damage assessments helped secure nearly $4 million in aid to residents. Volunteers also attended more than 55 public events reaching roughly 10,000 residents with preparedness messaging.
The board and County Executive congratulated the volunteers and invited awardees to the dais for photos.
