The Wausau Transit Commission approved adding a second morning trip during summer school sessions that operate at the East site, after staff said the commission has the staffing capacity in summer to run the extra trip at modest additional cost.
Staff and a commissioner explained that some students using the East summer program arrive or start at slightly different times; running two morning trips would reduce late arrivals caused when the nearest regular-route bus does not serve the East site directly. Staff said the cost is primarily the marginal mileage of an eight-mile round trip and that, if demand does not materialize, the service can revert to a single morning trip.
A commissioner who teaches for a charter said the extra trip would be helpful; other commissioners agreed to try two trips and monitor demand. The motion carried unanimously.
