Monongalia County litter control officer resigns; county rolls out larger, slot-style recycling bins

Monongalia County on April 23 accepted the resignation of Alex Hall, the county’s litter control officer, who told the commission he will leave the post in May.
Hall used his appearance before the commission to describe operational changes implemented in the county’s recycling program to reduce contamination. He described contamination—motor oil and other prohibited items—entering recycling bins and said the county replaced swing-door containers with slot-style containers on all sides to make dumping less convenient and to reduce contamination. "The bins doubled in size," Hall said, and the county reduced the number of runs from eight or nine per day to four to six by consolidating collections; he said that increased staff presence at sites makes it easier to assist residents who need help breaking down boxes.
Commissioners thanked Hall for his work over the last two to three years. County officials said the commission has arranged temporary coverage for the litter control office to maintain continuity and asked residents to continue using the previously published contact number; the administrator said calls will be answered during the interim.
The commission voted to accept Hall’s resignation; the motion passed by voice vote.
