Resident urges action on speeding at Crumpton Bridge; commissioners suggest State Highway Administration study and increased enforcement

Wendy Costa, a Crumpton Road resident, told the Kent County commissioners during public comment that speeding vehicles, particularly trucks, frequently exceed posted limits at the Crumpton Bridge and create hazardous conditions for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
“I almost get killed coming out of my driveway,” Wendy said, describing the frequency of dangerous passing speeds and noting the bridge lacks sidewalks and an adequate shoulder. She urged the county to find a way to reduce speeds before a fatal crash occurs.
In response Commissioner Albert H. Nickerson suggested the county prepare a letter to the Maryland State Highway Administration asking for a traffic study of the bridge area and requested that staff contact Sheriff Hickman and the local barracks to increase speed-enforcement patrols. No formal motion or ordinance was made at the meeting; the suggestions were presented as next steps for staff consideration.
