Board approves $17,800 schematic design for Cherry Walk Trail in Greenwood

Greenwood Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved a $17,800 services agreement with Hitchcock Design Group to produce a schematic design for the Cherry Walk Trail, a proposed extension of the existing walking trail near Cut Kutzinger Road.
The schematic will map a route to continue the existing trail along a drainage corridor that currently dead-ends about an eighth of a mile south of Cut Kutzinger, assess grade and stormwater constraints, and identify conflicts with utilities and power and gas lines. The agreement covers a feasibility study and route recommendation; staff said it is the first step in a multi-phase effort to connect the new alignment to Greenwood’s existing trail network.
"Right now, this is a schematic — figure out what route we're gonna do, if it's feasible, geographically where we're gonna lay this out based on grade, utilities, and easements," a staff member said during the meeting.
Board members and staff also discussed a developer-built segment on the south side of Kutzinger and the need for an accurate crossing design where that segment meets the public right-of-way. The presenter said the work will be phased and hybrid (in-person and virtual), and estimated a rough timeline of about 26 months for the succession of steps that follow this schematic phase.
A motion to approve the services agreement was moved by Mr. Dietrich and seconded by Mr. Berg. During roll call several members voted in favor: Mr. Dietrich (aye), Mr. Byrd (aye), Mr. Provost (aye) and Mr. Harris (aye). The board recorded the corrected contract amount as $17,800; staff noted the dollar amount printed on one agenda line needed adjustment but that the proposal itself showed the accurate figure.
The schematic contract does not itself authorize construction. Staff said the study will inform future design phases and permitting decisions and that additional approvals and funding will be required for later engineering, easements or construction.
