Planning commission approves preliminary plat for 1.91-acre commercial lot on South Memorial Drive

The Prattville Planning Commission approved the preliminary plat for HD and D Highway 31 Commercial Plat 1 on March 20, 2025, which subdivides a 1.91-acre parcel on South Memorial Drive adjacent to Sheila Boulevard for commercial development.

Staff presented the site plan and noted the property is currently undeveloped and zoned B-2. John McFinnegan, a nearby resident, sought clarification because earlier materials included a master-plan graphic for a larger 42.6-acre area; staff and the applicant clarified that the commission was only considering the immediate 1.91-acre lot at this meeting. "So this is more of a master plan... All they're petitioning is to subdivide Brothers, which would be... this right of way and lot 1, the 1.91 acres," staff explained.

With no other public opposition, a motion to approve the preliminary plat was moved and seconded and the commission voted in favor. A commissioner used a point of privilege to thank City Engineer Paxton Reese for his assistance. The preliminary plat approval is recorded in the meeting minutes as approved by the commission; any final plat and development will be subject to subsequent departmental reviews and applicable permits.
