The City of Solon’s public works engineer described new traffic patterns and closures after the Solon Road reconstruction project began Monday.
City Engineer Bush said the first phase — covering Solon Road between Bainbridge Road and Aurora Road — began with a detour that maintains two westbound lanes while detouring eastbound traffic. The engineer said the first phase is tentatively expected to continue “right around the July 4” holiday.
Bush also said the intersection of Solon Road and Bainbridge Road will remain closed for the duration of the work; a section of Bainbridge Road between Som Center and Solon Road will be limited to local access only. The engineer gave practical routing guidance: motorists coming from Davis Industrial should use Aurora Road and Som Center to return to Solon Road, while drivers on Harper Road approaching Bainbridge eastbound should follow the Solon Road detour and use Aurora Road to Som Center to access the Bainbridge/Som intersection.
Councilmembers asked for and received the update during council comments. The mayor and others urged residents to support nearby businesses affected by the construction, and councilmembers said they expect the project to continue through November for full completion of roadwork.
