Rancho Mirage to add third active ambulance; Medic 52 to be stationed at Fire Station 69

Council Member Michael O’Keefe and fire officials told the Rancho Mirage City Council that the city will add a new ambulance, Medic 52, which will be stationed at Fire Station 69 and is expected to enter service later this year.
O’Keefe described the city’s current emergency medical services: Fire Station 50 on the city’s south end houses Medic 50, Station 69 houses Medic 69, and a reserve ambulance (Medic 269) is available. With the arrival of Medic 52, the city will have three active ambulances and one reserve unit. Officials said personnel have been hired and the new unit will enter service after the ambulance is equipped and staff are boarded.
A video shown at the meeting included comments attributed to Battalion Chief Matthew Coates and Firefighter Paramedic Ashley Koski describing increased call volumes and the added capacity and advanced life-support capabilities the additional ambulance will provide. The video said the ambulance is being built in Houston, Texas, and will be available later this year.
Mayor Ted Weil reiterated that Rancho Mirage residents are not charged out-of-pocket ambulance fees; the city seeks insurance reimbursements when available but stated there is no charge if no insurance exists.
No formal council action was required during the announcement; officials described staffing and equipment timelines.
