Luzerne County staff briefed the council on a resolution to acknowledge that an opioid-fund recipient, formerly operating as Always Believe Recovery, has changed its legal name and employer identification number to True North Recovery of NEPA.
A county project manager said the organization’s mission and the funded project remain unchanged; the organization created a new legal entity and new EIN, and county staff recommended a re-commitment of the opioid-fund award to the entity that will hold the grant under the new tax ID. Chris Cawley, who said he was hired to manage the project through the development stage, said the name change was a marketing decision and that the underlying project and grant agreement remain the same.
Council members asked whether additional paperwork would be required to ensure alignment with the original grant agreement; the county manager's office and staff indicated that the necessary administrative steps would be confirmed and the item was on the agenda to formally document the change.
No dissent or vote to deny funding was recorded. The meeting record shows the matter was discussed and staff directed to proceed with administrative steps to recommit the award to the newly named entity as appropriate.
