Heritage School principal Debbie Arbazoo told the Snowline Joint Unified School District board that the school received a California Distinguished School award; students and staff showcased the Heritage Drama Clubperformance — the program's first full production since COVID.
Heritage School principal Debbie Arbazoo told the Snowline Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees that Heritage has been named a California Distinguished School and invited the board to celebrate with the campus community.
The recognition is based on data reported through the 2024 California Dashboard, the district presentation said, and highlights schools that demonstrate academic achievement, growth and a positive school climate using state test results, attendance and suspension data. Arbazoo said the school was invited to a recognition ceremony in May and to participate in a virtual event on May 14.
The board meeting included a live spotlight on Heritage: staff introduced a short video and representatives of the Heritage Drama Club and its production team performed a scene from Disney's Moana Junior. Principal Arbazoo thanked donors and staff members who helped create the school's recognition video and credited parent volunteers and a long-serving staff for the school's work.
"It's an incredible honor to have Heritage recognized as a California distinguished school," Arbazoo said. "This award celebrates our students, staff, families, district administration, and school board. I'm honored to lead Heritage where students continue to soar to academic success."
Board members and administrators praised the students and staff after the performance. The drama club performance was the school's first full production since COVID closures, and staff said the production involved student performers in grades three through eight along with parents and staff who handled costumes, makeup, set preparation and logistics.
The presentation also noted Heritage's thirtieth anniversary and described the school's instructional focus and elective opportunities, and the principal emphasized the school's partnership with families.
Board President Sam Behringer and trustees applauded the students and thanked staff for bringing the recognition and production to the boardroom.
The Heritage segment was informational; no formal board action was taken on the recognition itself during the meeting.
