Commissioners agree to consider letter supporting parks district $500,000 grant request for Chippewa access path

Medina County Board of Commissioners — County sanitary engineering staff asked the commissioners to consider a formal letter of support for the Medina County Park District’s application for a $500,000 community-projects grant through U.S. Rep. Max Miller’s office to construct a 12-foot-wide access path in the former amusement-park area in Chippewa.

Jeremy Cinco told the board the path would run adjacent to existing sanitary sewer lines on the property and would provide county crews improved access to the lines. He said the parks district had requested a commissioners’ letter of support and that the same congressional community-projects fund also contains the county’s application for the Chippewa wastewater plant, so staff wanted direction from the board on whether the commissioners should provide a letter.

Commissioners indicated they had no objection to drafting a letter of support and that a letter from the board would likely carry more weight than one from an individual staff member; Jeremy Cinco said he would provide draft language and noted the park district’s deadline was at the end of the week. No budget commitment from the county was requested or approved during the discussion.
